Chocolate manufacturer. Firm established in Dorchester, Mass., in 1780 by James Baker (1739-1825) and continued by his son Edmund Baker (1770-1846) and grandson Walter Baker (1792-1852). Henry L. Pierce (1825-1896) controlled the firm for 42 years and expanded it from a local business to the leading chocolate firm in the country. In 1927 it became part of General Foods.
